Most of what people ask us is answered below, faster than we could answer it by email.
Before you write
“How much will a system cost me?” Nobody can price a system honestly without seeing your roof, your electricity use and your consumer unit. Our cost guide gives installed ranges by system size, each carrying the date we checked it, and explains what moves a price up or down. Comparing quotes gives you the real number.
“What size system do I need?” It depends on how much electricity you use and when you use it, far more than on the size of your roof. Comparing system sizes explains how to work it out.
“Will I get paid for what I export?” Yes, through the Smart Export Guarantee, and the rate you are on matters more than the panels you buy. Tariffs and export payments covers how it works and what to watch for.
“Is there a grant?” For solar, no, but VAT is zero-rated and that is worth more than most people expect. For heat pumps there is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Grants and schemes lists what is open, who qualifies and when each one closes.
“Which brand should I buy?” We publish brand reviews, and we sell no equipment and take no payment from any manufacturer. Which brand suits you depends on your roof and on what your local installers stock and can support.
“Can you recommend an installer?” No, and we would not trust anyone who did. We are not an installer, we do not inspect anyone’s work, and we do not rank the installers who quote. Choosing an installer explains what to check yourself, including MCS registration and whether the installer belongs to a consumer code such as RECC or HIES, and what belonging to one would give you.
Correcting your details, or stopping contact
If you have asked for quotes and want your details changed, deleted, or not passed on, email privacy@solar-market.co.uk and say what you would like done. Include the details you gave us so we can find your request.
That address also handles everything in our Privacy Notice: a copy of what we hold about you, correcting it, deleting it, and objecting to us passing it on. We answer within one month.
To stop a particular installer contacting you, name them in the email. To stop all contact, reply STOP to the text we sent you when your enquiry was passed on.
