Solar Panel Reviews

Our panel manufacturer pages, what they are for, and why we describe manufacturers rather than scoring them.

What these pages are, and what they are not

They are not scored reviews. We do not install solar, we do not sell equipment and we are paid by installers for introductions. A star rating from us would be worth nothing to you and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

What these pages do is describe each manufacturer, say what its UK presence looks like, and set out what to check if one appears on your quote.

Manufacturers with current UK presence

Two manufacturers without pages of their own but worth knowing: Longi, the largest globally and widely available here, and Aiko, whose back-contact cells generally handle partial shading better than conventional designs, which matters more on British roofs than most. Both are covered on which brands you will be quoted.

Manufacturers we no longer cover individually

Solar manufacturing has seen a great deal of turnover. Several names that once warranted their own pages have collapsed, been delisted or left the industry: Hanergy, Suntech, Yingli, Tesco, Schott Solar, Bosch, Perlight, Phono and Hyundai.

If you already own panels from one of these, you have not been abandoned. They will keep generating. But a warranty claim may be difficult or impossible, and replacing an individual panel to match may not be possible at all. Worth knowing before a fault develops rather than after.

This is also the single best argument for the question we push on the warranties page: not how many years, but who you would claim from and how.

How to use these pages

  1. Get quotes from up to 3 installers
  2. Note which panel each proposes
  3. Read the page for that manufacturer
  4. Work out the price per watt installed for each quote
  5. Check both warranties and the UK claim route
  6. Then choose on the installer, not the panel

That last step is the one that matters. Nearly all panels currently sold in the UK are competent. Installers vary far more.
